Washington, SANA- U.S. Congresswoman Elizabeth Warren of Democratic Party, and Republican Representative Joe Wilson sent a bipartisan letter to US Congress Secretary of State and Treasury Secretary urging easing U.S. sanctions on Syria to Support Reconstruction and Promote Stability in Region.
In their letter, the two representatives said that the broad restrictions imposed more than a decade ago, targeting a regime that no longer exists, now threaten to undermine US national security goals and hinder Syria’s reconstruction.
The senators stated that the keeping sanctions would undermine Syria’s path to stability and could encourage new migration or entrench reliance on illicit means, furthermore, hindering reconstruction would open the door once again for Iran and Russia to regain their influence.
They also, called for providing a clear roadmap outlining specific actions Syrian authorities could take to bring about additional sanctions relief beyond near-term changes
