Azerbaijani Embassy in Syria organizes Iftar banquets for a thousand orphaned children

Damascus – SANA The Azerbaijani Embassy in Syria, in collaboration with the Women’s Al-Mabarrah Society, organized an Iftar banquet on Tuesday evening for orphaned children at the association’s headquarters in Damascus.

In a statement to SANA, Charge d’affaires of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Syria, Elnur Sultan Shahhuseynov, explained that the initiative was directly proposed by the Azerbaijani government, aiming to provide Iftar banquets to a thousand orphaned children in Syria over the course of three days.

The banquet organized on Tuesday hosted 400 orphaned children, with two more banquets planned for the next two days at the society’s headquarters in Mezzeh and in Sbeinah, Damascus Countryside.

During his remarks at the Iftar event, Shahhuseynov highlighted that since the closure of Azerbaijan’s embassy in Damascus, the Azerbaijani people have been deprived of fostering relationships with the Syrian people, with whom they share cultural, religious, and historical ties.

He noted that, following the great victory achieved by the Syrian people, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev directed the reopening of the embassy, which had been closed since 2012. This directive also included a high-level visit by an Azerbaijani foreign affairs delegation, the delivery of 200 tons of humanitarian aid, and the construction of a school.

Shahhuseynov emphasized that Azerbaijan was among the first countries to establish direct contact with Syria, sending congratulatory messages to President Ahmad al-Sharaa on his assumption of office and on the occasion of Ramadan.

He also pointed out to the Azerbaijani leadership’s significant commitment to enhancing friendly and cooperative relations with Syria’s new leadership across all fields. Furthermore, he reiterated Azerbaijan’s support for Syria’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, stability, prosperity, and economic growth.

On an international level, Shahhuseynov noted that Azerbaijan is working to reintegrate Syria into the global community and actively participate in all conferences related to Syria. He expressed his wishes for peace, security, and stability for Syria and its people.

For her part, Maha Diab, Chairwoman of the Society’s Board, extended her gratitude to Azerbaijan for this initiative.

She highlighted the Society’s mission to support and care for orphans, whether they reside within the association or with their families. This includes supporting caregivers, ensuring they have all necessary resources for a dignified life, such as food, financial aid, and psychological support, among many other needs.
