World Bank affirms its readiness to support Syria

Washington, SANA- World Bank’s Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, Ousmane Dione, affirmed the bank’s readiness to support the Syrian people in the areas of energy and digital technology.

Dione said in a tweet Wednesday, on the X platform: “We held meaningful meetings during the World Bank’s Spring Meetings with the Minister of Finance, Mohammad Yusr Barnieh, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdul Qader Hosriya, in their first participation in over a decade”, clarifying that priority areas for recovery and reform in Syria were discussed.

“The goal of participating in the meeting held by Syria with the international Monetary Fund and the world Bank is to revive cooperation with international financial institutions, open channels for technical support, and build capabilities”, the Minister had articulated earlier.
