Health Ministry, ECHO discuss cooperation to ensure healthy environment for Syrian citizens

Damascus, SANA- Health Ministry and the European Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) have discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation to contribute to community development and ensure a healthy environment for citizens in Syria.

That came during a meeting Monday that brought together Acting Minister of Health, Dr. Maher al-Sharaa and Andreas Papaconstantinou, Director of the Middle East Region at ECHO, and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting held at the ministry, the two sides discussed the reality of the health sector in Syria, its needs and requirements, as well as the most effective ways to meet the enormous humanitarian health needs in Syria.

Dr. al-Sharaa noted that the health situation in Syria is very dire, and that the ministry has been working since the first day of liberation to restructure it. The ministry has developed a list of basic needs to revive this sector and build an integrated health system based on the referral system.

He emphasized the necessity of partnership to provide healthcare for all citizens.

For his part, Papaconstantinou stressed the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts to provide more humanitarian aid and support the needs of health programs, underlining the need for financial support from all countries to alleviate the current crisis and meet the needs of Syrians.
