SCAA, ICAO ink MoU to develop aviation sector in Syria

Damascus / SANA – The Syrian Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization(ICAO) represented by the regional office in the Middle East, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the aim of developing the aviation sector in the country, and laying the foundations and methods for future bilateral cooperation.

During a press conference today on the occasion of the visit of ICAO delegation to Damascus, The head of the Authority, Ashhad al-Salibi, stated that the meetings discussed enhancing aviation safety and security, modernizing the infrastructure, and raising the efficiency of air navigation as well as opening new horizons for work, in a way that serves the interests of all, stressing the authority’s continued commitment to work according to international standards, and building strong partnerships that achieve the desired progress for this vital sector.

ICAO Regional Director in the Middle East, Mohammed Abu Bakr Fareh al-Salibi, in turn, revealed that the opening of Aleppo International Airport will be during the coming week, with plans to operate Lattakia International Airport at a later stage, followed by all Syrian civil airports in succession, noting that there is more than one offer to install navigational equipment to ensure aviation security and safety.‏
