16 visual artists showcase diverse works at Shahba Cultural Center in Sweida

Sweida, SANA- Sixteen visual artists from Sweida Governorate are presenting a variety of works in an exhibition inaugurated Saturday at the Cultural Center in the city of Shahba, in collaboration with the city’s Cultural Committee.

The exhibition, which will run until the 16th of this month, features 27 paintings employing various techniques, addressing themes such as human conditions, nature, and abstraction, alongside 14 artworks combining multi-material sculptures, metalworks, and wire art.

According to the exhibition’s curator, artist Hamid Noufal, the event emphasizes the constant presence of art as a language and serves as a living testament to artists’ aspirations, thoughts, and lived realities. It seeks to spread the values of beauty and peace while showcasing creative artistic works as embodiments of vibrant emotions, forward-thinking minds, present consciousness, and vivid imagination.

Visual artist Zaid Salloum shared that he was keen to present three works using a single technique, employing joyful colors to inspire optimism. His creations depict windows to places, dreams inspired by music, and a story from ancient Greek mythology.

Veteran artist Saadou al-Safadi, aged 75, aimed to revive the memory of an old Roman house his family inhabited in the countryside of Sweida through one of his showcased works, which he drew from memory 56 years ago.

Artist Alaa Qteish, a member of the Visual Artists Union in Sweida, focused on nature-themed paintings using oil and watercolor techniques, reflecting his preferred artistic style.

Sculptor Abdullah al-Ak added a unique dimension to his basalt sculptures by incorporating a new experiment involving metal recycling, crafting a piece that serves his concept and symbolizes a return to Syria after a period of hardship.
