UN official condemns the Israeli forces’ violation of the UN Disengagement Observer Force’s area of operations in the Golan Heights

New York, SANA-UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, condemned the Israeli forces’ violation of the UNDOF’s area of operations in the Syrian Golan Heights, calling for adherence to the disengagement agreement.

“The situation in the UNDOF area of operations remains volatile and continues to be characterized by significant violations of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, with Israeli forces entering the buffer zone.” In his address to the UN Security Council during yesterday’s session on Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, Lacroix said.

According to the Turkish Anadolu Agency, Lacroix stressed that “all actions that contradict the agreement are unacceptable,” affirming that it is imperative for all parties to fulfill their obligations under the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

The UN official also stressed the need for UNDOF to enjoy freedom of movement in its area of operations, asserting that the presence of the UN force is essential for stability in the Golan Heights and the region.
