Priorities of this period and its future plans… President al-Sharaa chairs first meeting of the new government

Damascus, SANA- The first meeting of the government of the Syrian Arab Republic was held Monday, April 7th 2025, chaired by President Ahmad al-Sharaa, who gave a directive speech that defines priorities of the government work and the challenges that face various ministries.

The President stressed the importance of integration in the work of the ministries in order to develop emergency plans that take into account the priority of the Syrian citizen in terms of revitalizing the economy in a way that would positively impact their daily needs and repair the massive damage caused by the former ousted regime to the country’s infrastructure.

President Al-Sharaa also stressed the importance of the reconstruction file and the necessity of developing strategic plans to organize cities and towns, emphasizing the cultural and civilizational integration with urbanization.

The President stressed the principle of civil peace as a primary factor for the government action during the coming period, and some related issues such as media discourse, which must be national, inclusive,   enhance the national unity and rising above all partitions, as Syria belongs to all its citizens.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the recent developments of important internal issues, particulalry  rebuilding a professional national army, restricting arms to the state, and the completion of the agreement with QSD and its various steps to achieve integration into the state’s civilian and military institutions, as well as the military factions in Sweida.

The discussions also reviewed the country’s economic approach and the importance of achieving harmony and integration among the Ministries of Economy and Finance and the Central Bank to overcome the negatives of the past, develop flexible policies that respond to promising opportunities in various sectors by building partnerships between the public and private sectors, and implement plans to enhance domestic tourism, in lite of the return of many citizens living abroad.

Later, the ministers presented various proposals and plans in the sectors of public works, housing, and displaced persons in camps, as well as support for the agricultural sector, energy, and infrastructure rehabilitation, particularly in the transportation sector.

They also discussed organizing civil society activities, promoting national culture, and the work of local administration at various levels, building a fair judicial system for a state of freedom and dignity, revitalizing official media, and developing future visions for media activities, including the construction of a media city.
